2012 Roberto Clemente World Series games are
July 26th - July 29th at Richard Craig Park in McDonough

The American Amateur Baseball Congress Roberto Clemente World Series begins this coming Wednesday, July 25th, with a Participants’ Reception at 6:00 p.m. on the McDonough Square. I always have food, a live band, Ronald McDonald, the Mayor and other guest to welcome these 8 teams royally. We also have a drawing for some great gifts provided by the South Metro Umpires Association. If you go to the city’s website and click on our facebook—right side of homepage (www.mcdonoughga.org) you can read a little about the World Series, see a list of where the 8 teams are from this year, and see a photo of last year’s champions. Last year’s winning team was the host team from McDonough. Great championship game—McDonough defeated the team from Puerto Rico by a score of 8 – 7.

These are 7 & 8 year old athletes, some teams good, few really good and some not as proficient at the game of baseball as their competition, hence the win/loss columns. It is a double elimination Series with a consolation game played on Friday by the first two teams to be eliminated. The championship game could be either the final game on Saturday night or have to go to the “IF” game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday depending on wins/losses. Majority of championship games have to go to the Sunday afternoon game.

These sporting events, both the city’s RCWS and the multiple Series and tournaments brought to McDonough by the Henry Co. Parks and Rec., put heads in beds (hotels) and feet on the streets (shoppers/hungry eaters).

We need your support to make the 2012 RCWS an event to remember and memories for a lifetime for the players, coaches, families and friends who come to McDonough in the heat of July to play some “hot” baseball!! It’s nearly time to…PLAY BALL!!
